Seminar on OCEAN WEALTH: POTENTIAL & OPPORTUNITIES FOR SUSTAINABLE BLUE ECONOMY
The Madras Chamber has joined hands with Waterfalls Institute of Technology Transfer (WITT) and Anna University to organize  a Seminar on “Ocean Wealth-  Potential and Opportunities for Sustainable Blue Economy” on 10th August 2018 at Delta Auditorium, Anna University between 4.00pm and 8.00 pm followed by dinner.

The oceans have played a key role since time immemorial in enabling trade, travel and conquests across countries and in providing livelihoods to sea-faring communities and people near the shores.  Even during the 20th century, many countries approached the ocean with a view to seek employment and capture a part of the marine living resources.
However, it is only during the last few decades that we have started exploring and exploiting the wide range of wealth provided by the oceans themselves.  Climate change has also driven us to learn more about the oceans and understand & monitor it better, so that we plan better to face natural disasters.  And of course, along with the spiraling exploitation of ocean resources comes the dangers of further damaging delicate environment balances.
This seminar, perhaps the first in Chennai, aims at providing an insight to both industry and academia on the significant economic potential provided by oceans and the technologies available to explore & utilize the same, while keeping an eye on the sustainability aspects, especially in the Indian context and being in Tamil Nadu State, which has the second largest Coastline in the Country.

Eminent speakers from would be addressing the Seminar. Dr.Harsh Gupta, Former Secretary, Dept. of Ocean Development, GoI has kindly consented to give the key note address.
